Match Report: 4th Match – Dark View Explorers vs La Soufriere Hikers
The first game of round two turned out to be the most exciting encounter of the tournament so far. Dark View Explorers won the toss and chose to field. Darius Martin bowled Explorers to a good start, only conceding 5 runs in his first over against the explosive opening pair for the Hikers. That was short lived though, as the Hikers soon did what they do best – pulverising bowling attacks.
Dillon Douglas in particular was severe, punishing anything short and full, demonstrating his full range of talent. His knock of 40 was laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes. The veteran Salvan Browne played an important knock of 23 containing 2 fours and 2 sixes. Dean Browne then joined the party and kept the scoring rate going but the Explorers pulled things back to the backend, conceding only 13 runs from the last 13 deliveries, with the Hikers finishing on 109/6 from their 10 overs. Deron Greaves was the most successful bowler with his off spin, taking 4-16. Darius Martin, though wicket-less, helped to stem the flow of runs at the back end.
In the Explorers run chase, they got off to a fine start, taking 14 runs from the first over. Deron Greaves was being the aggressor early but Lindon James, playing with a cool head, started to play catch up and delivered some fine shots. They lost their first wicket with the score on 54 from 5.3 overs, keeping themselves within the chase. When the Explorers lost their 2nd wicket on 83, they required 27 from 13 balls. When the last over came, they needed 13 to win, but Dean Browne delivered an amazing last over to secure victory by 3 runs. Lindon James top scored with 48 from 29 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes.
